    A Summary of Day 3

Hello again, it’s Bill Mew here from Barcelona reporting from Mobile World Congress 2024. I’ve been treading the halls looking at a lot of the innovations on display here at Mobile World Congress, and Des Blanchfield, my colleague from Australia, has been tuning in from afar, seeing what’s been on social and in the online environment.

    Devices Take Center Stage

Des mentioned that there was a lot of focus on value-add software elements, particularly AI, and less on the actual carrier elements of routers, switches, and servers. Here are some key highlights from his observations:

    • AI-powered companion dolls
    • Variation of a robot pet dog
    • Flying cars
    • Folding mobile phone that straps around your wrist
    • Transparent laptop
    • Smartphones, smart rings, and smart watches
    • Smart rings trending in healthcare

    Shift towards Value-Add Software

Des also noted a significant focus on value-add software in the space, particularly in the AI realm. However, he felt there were fewer practical demonstrations and real-world examples, with more emphasis on the potential of AI.

    Return to Commercial Focus

While there were eye-catching consumer products on display, the overall focus of Mobile World Congress remained on enterprise solutions. The event saw a return to near full strength, with a strong emphasis on commercial clients and business-oriented applications.

    Looking Forward

Des and I both look forward to the future of Mobile World Congress and the continued growth of the event. We hope to see you all online throughout the year and possibly at other industry events in the near future.
