Welcome to the 2018 AT&T Business Summit! I’m Dez Blanchfield, and I’m here in Dallas on the Innovation Showcase floor. Today, I have the pleasure of being joined by Robert Boyanowski, the Vice President for Enterprise Mobility at AT&T Business. In this segment, Robert discusses the exciting developments and innovations in the enterprise space, particularly in relation to the deployment of 5G technology.
5G Deployment and Enterprise Solutions
- 5G Deployment: AT&T is set to be the first US-based mobile network to deploy 5G by the end of this year. With 12 cities announced for 2018 and 7 more for next year, the excitement around 5G is palpable.
- Enterprise Focus: AT&T’s focus is on solving business problems and delivering tangible business outcomes rather than just emphasizing speed and feeds. The aim is to mobilise the enterprise and provide solutions that address current technological limitations.
Enterprise Applications of 5G
- Manufacturing Verticals: There is a growing interest in operational efficiencies in manufacturing, with specific use cases such as untethering robots and deploying environmental sensors for improved safety and monitoring.
- In-Building Coverage: The software-defined nature of 5G networks allows for improved in-building coverage, enabling enterprises to manage their cellular data locally and address previous challenges related to in-building connectivity.
- Edge to Edge Theme: The theme of the 2018 AT&T Business Summit, “edge to edge,” is made possible by 5G technology. The low latency and high throughput of 5G open up possibilities for applications such as autonomous vehicles and IoT.
Unexpected Applications of 5G
- Retail Transformation: AT&T’s mobilisation of the point of sale in retail stores is a prime example of leveraging 5G for improved customer experiences and operational efficiency.
- Security and Mobility: Enterprises are now looking to ensure that their data stays locally, leveraging the low latency and network compute capabilities of 5G to enhance security and control over their endpoints.
As the deployment of 5G continues to unfold, the potential for transformative applications in the enterprise space is becoming increasingly evident. Stay tuned for more updates and insights from the 2018 AT&T Business Summit!
