Welcome to another episode of Conversations With Dez. In this episode I’m reporting from the Banking and Finance industry annual event Sibos 2018, where I had the pleasure of speaking with Ross Mallis from Temenos, at the International Convention Center in Darling Harbor, Sydney. Ross is the head of the cloud business for the Asia Pacific region at Temenos.
In this conversation with Ross, we discuss the challenges and opportunities in the banking and financial technology industry, particularly in the areas of payments, security, and AI.
Addressing Industry Challenges
During our conversation, Ross highlighted some of the key themes and challenges that banks and financial institutions are facing, including:
- Cost of Payments: The need to reduce the cost of payments and increase transaction speed.
- Implementing New Capabilities: The challenge of reducing the cost of implementing new capabilities while maintaining flexibility and speed to market.
Ross emphasised that Temenos has solutions to address these challenges and is focused on helping banks leverage these capabilities and move quickly in the evolving market.
Serving Established Banks and Startups
We also discussed the unique challenge of serving both established banks and startups in the industry. Ross shared insights on how Temenos addresses the needs of both sectors:
- Startups and FinTechs: Temenos provides strong enterprise-grade capabilities on an OPEX model, allowing startups to get up and running quickly without a large upfront investment.
- Established Banks: For established banks with legacy systems, Temenos offers the ability to spin up new environments and migrate to modern solutions, providing a flexible and cost-effective approach to innovation.
It was a pleasure speaking with Ross Mallis and gaining valuable insights into the future of banking and financial technology. Stay tuned for more updates from Sibos 2018 and the latest innovations in the industry.
