Welcome to the Health Information Systems Symposium in Orlando! I’m Des Blanchfield, and I had the pleasure of speaking with Harsh D. Howard, the CTO and VP of Nihon Koden. In this blog post, we’ll dive into the exciting work that Nihon Koden is doing with AT&T Business in the healthcare space, particularly around connected devices and the transition from old legacy infrastructure to smart devices.

    About Nihon Koden

Nihon Koden is a Japanese-based healthcare manufacturer and the fastest growing patient monitoring company in the United States. They specialize in making various physiological monitoring systems, including devices that measure vital signs, neurology, and cardiology.

    Partnership with AT&T Business

Nihon Koden has formed a strong relationship with AT&T Business in the healthcare space, particularly through the AT&T Foundry. They have been working on innovative solutions to address the connectivity challenge in healthcare, particularly in transitioning from old legacy infrastructure to smart devices.

    The G3 Telemetry Assist Device

One of the key devices that Nihon Koden has developed is the G3 telemetry assist device. This device is used by hospitals to monitor the vital signs of patients who are not in the ICU but are in med surge units. The device is wifi capable, allowing it to connect to the hospital’s wifi infrastructure for remote monitoring.

    The Transition to Cellular Connectivity

Recognizing the limitations of wifi coverage, particularly when patients are encouraged to walk outside or when they are transferred between buildings, Nihon Koden partnered with AT&T Foundry to develop a travel pack that can switch between wifi and cellular connectivity. This innovation allows patients to be remotely monitored even when they are outside the hospital premises.

    Benefits of Connected Devices

The collaboration between Nihon Koden and AT&T Business has led to significant benefits for both patients and industry players in the healthcare space:

    • Remote patient monitoring allows hospitals to staff their nurses appropriately and address critical events promptly.
    • The cellular and wifi capabilities, along with GPS functionality, enable hospitals to locate and monitor patients, particularly those with special needs.
    • The continuous data feed into the EMR system provides valuable insights for physicians and clinicians to make informed treatment decisions.

    The Future of Healthcare

The partnership between Nihon Koden and AT&T Business represents the future of healthcare, where connected devices and data-driven decisions play a crucial role in improving patient care and optimizing healthcare services. With the ability to monitor patients throughout their healthcare journey, from hospital care to in-home and remote monitoring, the industry is poised for significant advancements in patient care and treatment.

    Conclusion

The collaboration between Nihon Koden and AT&T Business exemplifies the potential of connected devices and cellular connectivity in revolutionizing the healthcare industry. By leveraging data and technology, both companies are at the forefront of providing innovative solutions that benefit patients, healthcare providers, and the industry as a whole.

Stay tuned for more insights and updates from the Health Information Systems Symposium. Thank you for joining us!
