Welcome to Conversations with Dez, where we bring you the latest insights and updates from industry experts. In this episode, we had the privilege of speaking with Lynn Komp, the vice president for the data platforms group and general manager for the network platforms group at Intel. Lynn shared some exciting announcements about Intel’s new platform offerings, including the second generation Xeon family and the Atom P5900 system-on-chip. Let’s dive into the details of these groundbreaking advancements.

    The New Xeon Suite

The second generation Xeon Scalable is a game-changer in the server space, offering more cores, cache, and frequency. This translates to up to 36% more performance for customers, with a 42% improvement in performance per dollar. Additionally, this processor line is the only CPU line with built-in AI acceleration, providing up to 6X more AI performance than previous generations. The end SKUs in the second generation Xeon Scalable also offer up to 50% more performance for network function virtualization, addressing the need for increased application performance.

    Embracing Flexibility with Atom P5900

The Atom P5900 is designed to meet the power and throughput demands of power-constrained environments, such as base stations. With 1.8 times better integer performance than the previous generation, this system-on-chip offers the flexibility of a CPU while delivering optimal performance for packet processing throughput. It’s a game-changer for edge networking and edge compute, providing high performance with low power consumption.

    Addressing Emerging Markets

The introduction of these new platform offerings has opened up a world of possibilities in emerging markets, particularly in the 5G space. From interactive experiences to industrial and fleet management, the flexibility and performance of these platforms are paving the way for innovative solutions. The ability to deliver a seamless platform for a wide range of workloads, from edge to cloud, is reducing time to market and return on investment for developers and businesses.

    Looking Ahead

As we look to the future, the possibilities are endless. The new platform offerings from Intel are set to revolutionize the way we experience technology, from interactive media delivery to IoT and autonomous vehicles. The management structures covering both licensed and unlicensed spectrum are opening doors to private enterprise networks, enabling new levels of connectivity and control.
